Another win for the Rotterdames

Last Sunday we were facing the ladies from Thor at their home pitch, an always tough opponent but lately weakened by a lot of injuries.

We started the match with 12 against 11 players and it started with a bang. In the first few minutes, our opponents made smart use of our lack of organisation and scored two tries in a row. That shook us awake, we started communicating better and kept our defence line closed. After a few turnovers from both sides, we managed to get the Thor ladies out of balance and could finally make use of our overlap to score our first try. This really got the energy up and we managed to score a couple of more tries before half time.

During the break, our coach was positive about the progress we made during the first half and told us to continue using our back line to keep the tries coming. That was the sign for the forwards to step up their game themselves in the attack and scored two tries in a row in the beginning of the second half. By then we really got into our game, but don’t get this wrong. The ladies from Thor, hit by another injury and supported by two of our players, didn’t make it easy and we had to fight for every meter, heavily protect our ball and quickly switch from offence to defence after smart steals of the ball. Both teams managed to break the line a few times to score more tries.

In the last phase of the game, our backs really got going and scored more tries by quick playing, good communication and fast steps trough the defending line. Final score: 25-70, Rotterdames happy.

We wish all the Thor ladies a quick recovery and hope to play against a full squad next time – will be harder for us but feel better on both sides!
